BONJOUR ! BIENVENUE AU COURS DE FRANÇAIS I
This is going to be a great year! We’ll have fun learning a lot of French and about the cultures and people of French-speaking countries—but also expect a challenge!
Language learning means a LOT of effort and hard work.
Want to SPEAK French? A lot of that depends on YOU! Here’s how:
1. DARE to speak. (The only way to learn is to try, make mistakes and mispronounce!)
2. Take advantage of pair & lab work done in class.
3. Learn and review your vocabulary on a DAILY basis. Can’t speak without words!
4. Start to think in French OUTSIDE of class. In your everyday activities, ask yourself
how you would say what you are doing or what you want in French.
5. Watch your favorite DVDs in French!
Class rules :
- We will come prepared to class. (Bon Voyage textbook, workbooks, pencil, AND vocabulary cards.)
- We will respect each other. (Snide remarks and rude gestures have no place in this class. Mistakes will be made by all of us. Those who dare the most will make the most mistakes, but they will also learn the most!)
Classroom procedures :
- Quiz EVERYDAY over what we covered the period before.
You may retake up to 5 (D or F) quizzes per 9-week period (schedule below).
- Homework is usually started in class; some may have to finish at home.
- A test is given after each unit. Your worst test score will be dropped at the end of each semester.
- No one is exempt from the final exams in French I (sorry!)
- Vocabulary is recorded on cards/paper—due at end of each semester for 75 pts.
- There is a small project due approximately every 4 ½ weeks (discussed later).
- Late policy: 1 day = 20% = not accepted (nothing new!)
- Absences: You are responsible for informing yourself on missed work. You have one week to make up the quiz. If the quiz has been handed back to the class, it is counted as a retake.
HOW AM I GRADED ?
Each semester grade will be based on the following:
Daily work (quizzes/homework) 40%
Assessment (tests/projects) 40%
*Participation 15%
Attendance 5%
*Not how well, but how often you participate—in French! Are you writing down your vocab words and doing your workbook or are you fooling around? Are you doing your verbal assignments with your partner, or are you talking about Saturday night?
RETAKE schedule :
Anything taken in the: Can be retaken before or by:
1 st 9 weeks Thurs, Oct. 7
2 nd 9 weeks Thurs, Dec. 11
3 rd 9 weeks Thurs, March 10
4 th 9 weeks Thurs, May 14
Quizzes can be retaken only once. The best grade of the two is taken.
Quizzes canNOT be retaken after the above dates.
If at any time you feel that something has been graded incorrectly or
unfairly do NOT HESITATE to come and speak to me about it. You may be right!
I would like to encourage you to set your standards high and make a determined effort to achieve them. Remember to keep Jesus #1 in your classes, your work and your social life and He WILL bless!
I’m looking forward to a great year together!
