Course Description: Comp 102 is an advanced writing course given as dual credit. In other words, students taking this course will earn credit for both English IV (second semester) and Comp 102. This class covers all materials from Comp 102 and also incorporates ACT Grammar study and some British English literature from English IV. The major emphasis of this course is on how to write a research paper.
Goal Statement: See student handbook.
Grading System: An "A" paper must be without any significant mechanical errors. However, an error-free paper is not necessarily an "A" paper. Content, creativity, and quality are more important than mere proofreading.
Collegedale Academy Scale: A: 93-100; A- :90-92; B+ :87-89; B :83-86; B- :80-82; C+ :77-79; C :73-76; C- :70-72; D+ :67-69; D :63-66; D- :60-62; F :0-59.
Southern Adventist University Scale: A :94-100; A- :91-93; B+ :89-90; B :86-88; B- :84-85; C+ :80-83; C :74-79; C- :70-73; D+ :67-69; D :64-66; D- :60-63; F :0-59.
Evaluation Procedure: Major Papers 50%, Tests 20%, Quizzes 10%, Homework/Class work 20%.
Absence Policy:

If you miss more than 6 classes (excused or unexcused) or are consistently tardy, you will fail this course even if your work is otherwise satisfactory. This policy is based on the fact that missing class means missing instruction, most of which is not found in textbooks and cannot be adequately reproduced from notes borrowed from a friend.

If your absence is excusable, you are responsible to provide documentation (on the absence form found with student packet) showing why it should be excused. When you return to class after an absence, you must be prepared for that day's activities since those activities are outlined in the class schedule. This includes any quizzes that may or may not be announced.
