| Length:
500-750 Works / Paper
Order |
| Directions |
- Follow
a deductive pattern (beginning with your thesis and adding to it)
or an inductive pattern (leading up to your conclusion).
- Be
very audience conscious. Groom your persona, language (connotations),
etc. to appeal to the jury.
- Order
your arguments from the least effective to the most effective or
vice versa.
- Do your
best to counter the opposition's points of view as you present
your own case.
- Be
aware of the underlying assumptions behind your assertions and use
assertions which are based on solid assumptions. On the same basis,
deal with the opposition's underlying assumptions as well as their assertions.
- Include
at least one outside reference
as evidence to back up your argument.
- Include
bibliographic information
at the bottom of the essay.
- Include
a copy of your outside source material(s).
- Your
argument should approximate speech since your paper will represent
a closing argument to be given to a jury (i.e. It should begin with
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury,"). The facts of the case
have already been presented during the trial. (It's okay to use second
person pronouns--this time only.
